Marrowbone began with a simple question: was I giving my dogs the nutrition they needed? Finding a clear answer was surprisingly difficult. Product labels varied, feeding methods were hard to compare, and nutrition rarely connected with the other things I was watching, like weight, activity and health changes. I wanted a clearer picture of Hera and Leto's everyday care. So I built Marrowbone.
It started with two hungry dogs
Every day, dog owners make decisions about what goes in the bowl. Yet the information behind those decisions is often incomplete, inconsistent or difficult to interpret. Raw food, kibble, wet food, supplements and treats are rarely understood as part of one diet. Weight and activity are tracked somewhere else, if at all.
Marrowbone brings those details together. It gives you one place to record meals, explore the available nutritional information and follow changes in your dog’s weight and activity over time. The result is a more useful record of everyday care, and a clearer understanding of the information behind it.
WHY TRACKING HEALTH & NUTRITION MATTERS
What works well for one dog may not suit another, and what is best for many dogs, may not suit every dog, even within the same household.

USE CASE 1
Hera - finding what worked for her
Hera began with a widely used, high-quality kibble with strong scientific support and broad professional recommendation. Despite its suitability for many dogs, it did not agree with Hera, and we repeatedly observed severe digestive discomfort after eating.
After seeking further opinions from our vet, a qualified trainer and a qualified canine nutritionist, and ruling out other possible causes, I chose to trial a different feeding approach. Hera responded well to the change immediately. We have continued with that approach for the past three years, with no further health issues except when she is exposed to certain ingredients or products. We monitor her diet and seek professional advice when needed. However, this modified feeding approach raised new challenges in ensuring it delivered all of the nutrients required for her long-term health.
We use Marrowbone to keep Hera’s meals, treats and ingredient exposures together in one place, ensuring she gets everything she needs. This helps us maintain a consistent record of her diet and gives us clearer information to discuss with veterinary or nutrition professionals when needed.

Leto - looking for patterns over time
Leto’s needs are different, she is a young dog and a different breed. With appropriate professional support, we have been monitoring health concerns like recurring ear irritation, as well as some anal-gland discomfort, occasional travel nausea and hormonal imbalances around her seasons. Her diet has been modified by our vet, and includes additional fibre following professional advice.
We use Marrowbone to record her food, fibre sources, treats and everyday care alongside health observations like discomfort or itching. Over time, that history helps us notice possible patterns between her everyday care and symptoms.
We can ensure she is getting extra support in her diet, while making fewer decisions from memory through the apps built-in reports, insights and reminders, and arrive better prepared for future professional conversations.
A diet that works well for many dogs may not suit every individual, and different dogs may have different routines or supplementary needs. Marrowbone does not diagnose a cause or prescribe a diet. It helps owners keep a clearer record of what was fed, what was observed and what changed over time to support health management and everyday care.

I created Marrowbone after struggling to find a clear, connected view of my own dogs’ nutrition, weight, activity and everyday care.
What began with Hera and Leto has grown into a way for other dog owners to bring those same details together, building a clearer record of everyday life with their dogs.
